7 things I learned about being a Mom

A common thread throughout my moms groups is the complaint that the new moms either don't feel like themselves, or they are not the mom they thought they would be.

As a new mom, it is common to feel overwhelmed, frumpy and tired. To not get anything done and not get any sleep.

They are wondering how these supposedly "super moms" do it. The moms that are dressed in heels and make up, nails done and make up almost professionally applied. Their houses are spotless and they always have time to play with their kids.

I have been doing this mom thing for 20 odd years and have seen a few things and learned a few things. I now bequeath you with some of my most valuable lessons...

Heroes of the City Review and Giveaway

I had the pleasure of testing out this super fun app. Heroes of the City app is a great way to entertain your 2-4 year old.

The app includes a few free Heroes of the City movies plus several more you can purchase. These movies are colorful and entertaining. The music is fun without being super annoying. The characters are interesting and engaging. And their voices don't make you feel like tearing your ears off, like some kids movies. The story is about several machines that work together to solve problems and help people. They are constantly rescuing a clumsy bird that seems to find trouble.

So far, the TV show runs on Playkids TV and the DVDs are available through Amazon. A book launch is planned for the US later this year.

The games on the app have awesome graphics, fun music and entertaining activities. Games include: Puzzles, catch bugs in a net, picture paint, put out the fires, catch the stars, whack a mole,  canon bird launch, fix the train tracks and memory. I had fun playing these games. They are easy, most require just a tap in the right place. The games do get harder as you go and as you level up, you can earn trophies.

I would definitely recommend this app to anyone needing to entertain small kids. It is available through Itunes for the iphone and ipad, and on android.

Wherfore Art Thou, Oh Glittering Spring?

Dear spring,

How have you been? I hope you have been well.

We all have been cold and sick all winter. My winter parka is so over worked, she is thinking of going on strike! My mittens are MIA. I think they may be under all the snow boots piled in my closet. There is a musty smell in my house and the window sealing is starting to peel from the window frames.
We really miss you! How is our friend the sun? Please send me some pictures from where ever you are so I can dream of a warm and sunny place. It has been cold and snowy here for so long, I forget what color the grass is. I long to see your creative displays of color and light.
Please hurry home!

Yours truly,
Me

Cadadoodle Reads for April

April's book is Love the One Your With by Emily Griffin

Ellen and Andy Graham have the perfect marriage. There is no question how deep their devotion is, and how naturally they bring out the best in each other. But one fateful afternoon, Ellen runs into Leo. The one who brought out the worst in her. The one who left her heartbroken nearly a decade ago. The one she could never quite forget. When his reappearance ignites long-dormant emotions, Ellen begins to question whether the life she's living is the one she's meant to live.

Kakamega

Kakamega is a great app from Itunes. It features fun and energetic songs that your children will enjoy listening to. Set to symphony music, the lyrics are both catchy and educational.  The composer, Shirley Choi has produced children's music that parents will appreciate as well. Set in the rainforest, this musical tells the story of people and creatures, and life in the rainforest. It teaches children about the importance of the rainforest and the need to protect it. Definitely an app to download if you are interested in teaching your children about the environment and our role in preserving it. Or if you are just tired of Dora!
